Fly the Maddog in Multi Crew with Hamachi
Step by Step tutorial by Cthulhus ![]() Since Maddog 2006 is available, many people buy this product to simulate the multi crew system. I noticed that many simmer can't create the connection between the two flying computers. With this tutorial, I'll try to help them to be connected with the Maddog. The features with Hamachi or default method are the same... The only new good point with Hamachi is that it's most easy to be connected. In France and in some other country like Spain, we have a "strange" modem called : xxxBOX like LiveBox, FreeBox... Those modems are not only a simple basic modems, it's a Modem Router with a good firewall with an automatic Local Network. Hard to changes the setup and configuration of this kind of hardware. Hamachi give you the possibility to simulate a Local Network (it's what we call a VPN designed for the game)... Another good feature with Hamachi is that you'll keep the same IP all the time ! and you'll got a good ping result with 70/100ms (It's a peer to peer connection). STEP 1 : Download and Install Hamachi Hamachi is free and can be downloaded on the official website at this URL : http://www.hamachi.cc The installation is quiet simple, just install it with default function. Then, Hamachi will give you an unique "strange" IP. The next step is to open the correct port in TCP and UDP mode. Clic in the bottom right button then clic on "Preference" then "Detailed configuration" on the "Status" tab. Please enter all data link this picture: ![]() Now, you have to create or join a network. Clic on the second button link this image : ![]() If all is correct, this is what you should see (with IPs and different names) : ![]() In that example, the PF Network's name is MD82 and the PF Hamachi name is Maddog and the PNF is Xavier. You can see two IPs. The IP on the top is the IP of Maddog (PF) and Xavier will be the (PNF). STEP 2 : Configure the "Load Manager" on the two PCs In the Load Manager, go to the Setup tab and just change the bottom informations : The Server (PF) enter the IP of the Client's computer and the Client enter the Server's IP. Note that the Server can join the session as a PNF... The role doesn't matter. ![]() Now, both computer have to lunch FS and start it with the EXACTLY the same settings (Same Pax and Baggages, Cargo, Fuel in KG or LBS, T.O CG...) and in the same cockpit start situation (Cold and Dark or engine running)... and in the same area like Airport and gate. It's better to have the same navdata (Airacs and sids/stars/apps). You have to be in the cockpit for the connection. The FS9 and FSX is fully compatible, one can run it in FS9 and the other side with FSX! When you reach you gate in the correct airport, go the the FS menu and chose PF for the 1st computer (01) and PNF for the 2nd computer (02): ![]() The PC01 must start the session as PF exactly in the same time as the PNF! Both players should read : PF/PNF in the top left corner (top right corner in the FO cockpit) If the PNF can read : PNF and the PC one don't read anything, that mean that you was not synchronized during the connection and you must try again. If nobody read anything, that mean that a error occurred with Hamachi, please check the PORT and IP... For better success, I recommend to switch of all your windows firewall. This is my second version of the tutorial and If you want more details, tell me and I'll update this tutorial. Sorry for my very bad English ... (I'm French Happy flying in the same cockpit! Hello I have a big problem with the Multi Crew feature. It seem to don't work. I have a full worked network with two computers. The network work because I can send files trough out the pipe and I can use the sharing Internet connection. But when I lunch the first computer, and go to the menu : Maddog -> Start Multi Crew session as PF, then noting happen. (I mean no message) On the manual, it seem that I should read the statue but no text appear.... Same on the second computer. The only small change I can notice is a small PC freeze. I follow exactly step bu step and It don't work. The control panel work. I can change the setting from the server to the other PC with the running maddog. (mean that my network work)... Please can you help me ? It's very important to me! This is an image of the Control Panel use with worked network (you can see the two birds) ![]() Thank to take time to help me. Xavier This is in FSX: All I did was load the MD80 into the same airport and same state etc, clicked on Maddog -> Start Multi Crew session as PF - I saw no message and you have to click on the other computer within 10 secs or less Maddog -> Start Multi Crew session as PNF and it worked OK, still saw no message. Have not tried flying but could startup OK from either computer. |

Hi !
I'm just a new Maddog pilot. In fact, I'm just reading the manual at this time and didn't event fly with the "chien fou" The main reason I bought this plane is the sharing cockpit feature. But my friend and I didn't find the time to try it already. My questions : Is the basic feature OK ? I've read many times that the PNF had poor graphic rendering with jumping plane etc ... If yes, is your "Hamachi method" leads to better / perfect results ? In one word, for our first tries, must we try the standard method and use Hamachi if it doesn't work well or do you advise us to use directly Hamachi ? Thanks for your help. -------------------- |

Thanks for help ! I've just installed Hamachi and created a ident and a network.
What I understood is that what we must do is that follows : - I connect and make the server active (green) (done by default) - The other pilot MUST have Hamachi too and connect with the name and password to the server I created. - We enter eachover's Hamachi's id in the Maddog's manager & setup. - Once in the MD82's cockpit, we connect one as PF and the other as PNF EXACTLY at the same time. Is all that OK or did I missunderstood something ? Your precious help will save a lot of time for my friend and I ! Thanks. -------------------- |

great ! Thank Xavier for that great tutorial and thank !!
But one question, why I can read on the manual : "The server must be enabled first, then the client. If the client connection it is not enabled after 10 second the control is returned to FS and an error message is displayed." You are right, I must lunch the connection at exactly the same time ... Hope that this prosses will be improved in the next release ... see you! |

I don't know why on the manual you can read that you must wait 10seconds... and I hope too for an improvement of this ....

another tip,
Be sure to be well connected with the other part... for that just clic on the other side's pseudo and clic "ping" ... the pings should be something around 30/40ms like this picture : ![]() On my screen, the was was on a local network, so the ping is less than 1 sec. If the operation cannot be performed, that mean that it there to a problem on the network and you must check your settings... -------------------- |

Hello,
You have to uncheck the box then enter manually the Hamachi IP. The control panel can't know which IPs you want to use. Give me more details if I didn't help you above. See you -------------------- |

When that occurs, make pause quickly in order to retry a connection. In most general case, it work If the problem occurs constantly, it is due to a bad connection between the two PC. (bad PING, unstable flow?)
It would be necessary that in the future this system of connection is improved considerably by Leonardo. -------------------- |

okay, this is why you can't connect... ping too high... you must have a ping between 50 to 130

Just something we found out yesterday. Normally we used to connect with my friend being the PF (=host) over hamachi. As me being the PNF and doing all the communication with VATSIM, this seemed like the logical way. My friend would join VATSIM as observer and off we go. Since then we allways had troubles with the flaps, as PNF i couldnt operate them.
Yesterday we tried something new. We connected with me being the PF and changed positions thereafter. Guess what, it was a much smoother flight for both of us and i could finally operate the flaps as intented. The reason seems to be i have a much higher upload rate then my friend does, but of course that's just a guess. Anyway, try it, maybe it works for you too! |
